The Urdaneta City National High School Batch 1992 donated books and adopted the new reading center of the school on March 26, 2022.
The opening of the new reading center started with a ribbon cutting which was led by Ms. Jeannette Mendoza, Batch ’92 Chairperson, Ms. Maricris Divina, Batch ’92 President and Ma’am Perlita A. Briones, Head Teacher VI of the English Department. After which, the signing of the deed of donation was done.
The Bawat Bata Bumabasa (3B’s) Program of the Department of Education aimed to make every child a reader. Having a new reading center with books of different genres would help the school in achieving the goal of the 3B’s program of DepEd.
UCNHS currently has project BRIGHT (Be Ready to Become Independent, Good, Happy and Teachable Reader) and Project Grade (Guided Reading Activities in Distance Learning Education) to support the 3B’s Program of DepEd. Through these projects, teachers provide different strategies in teaching learners how to read. One of which is the developmental reading class where students who are diagnosed as beginning readers are encouraged to attend this class to help them become better readers. This class uses a separate reading room so that students will be given much attention and focus by the teacher to help them improve their reading skills.
The new reading center with new books donated by batch ‘92 would benefit the beginning readers of the school. The fascinating ambiance of the new reading center would help in motivating students to love and learn reading.
