Science Month: Shaping the Minds of the Youth
Science is such a beauty as it uncovers the deep mystery of the universe, uncovers the microscopic world, expands the knowledge of the human body, expands knowledge about everything. Science not only spreads knowledge but also unleashes creativity amongst people. That’s why it is important to make events about science that targets the inner creativity and intelligence of people.

Science Month is an annual celebration for science, it is celebrated in the month of October. This science fest really brings out the creativeness amongst the students. The pandemic was not a problem because it became a great way to further enhance science and technology. Our school, Urdaneta City National High School held conducted a science festival which is composed of different events.
The events were: Sci-Tatak (Logo Making), Sci-Fographics, Sci-Magic, Digital Sci-Poster Making, Sci-Slogan, Sci-Talk, Sci-Litang Tula (Spoken Poetry), Sci-Face Mask and Sci-Face Shield, and Sci-Liksik. These events were simple but, it enhances the skills of students and it also gives them more knowledge about science.

Teachers were amazed by what the participants did during the science festival. They really saw how determined they were with their works, engaging science through their artworks, and spreading awareness about the current events especially the pandemic. The students who participated are proud as they became part of the annual science festival.

Students opinions about the events were really marvelous. They said that science needs to be and should be developing and upgrading continuously to cope with the changes and needs of the community, thus, helping in making the lives of everyone safer and more comfortable. As technology becomes advanced each day, it is better for us to spread science and educate others so we can progress with our lives.

A participant from 9 – Dalton, Kiara Claire S. Nonales, who won first place on 2 events: Sci-Fographics, and Sci-Face Mask and Sci-Face Shield, really put a lot of effort in her craft. From the event, she learned to be innovative as technology is getting advance from every corner of the world that helps people continuously. With these kinds of events, it really shapes the people’s minds, teaching us to be brilliant and to be innovative.

Other winners of the said competitions during the Science Festival were: Jailee Ignacio, Samirah Raye Abarabar and Alexa Gabrielle Iglesias for the Digital Sci-Poster Making; Kiara Claire Nonales, Rhian Mikaela Capitis and Henna May Disu for Sci-fographic; Sabrina Michelle Aquino, Majiele Bustillos, Gerna Lyn Dagarag for Sci-slogan; Pia Margareth Agas, Ashly Anne Lauren Espelita, and Athan Louis Fabro for Sci-Tatak; Kiara Claire Nonales and Jazmine Tangalin on Sci-face mask and face shield; Shahanna Ninonuevo, Sophia Elise Regaspi and Junela Carel Tendero on Sci-Tula; Arman Julian Velasco and Marrheon Villanueva on Sci-Magic; and, Kim Louise Sonio on Sci-Talk.
Indeed, science teaches us to see what lies behind the mystery, teaches us to invent things to know the reason behind something, to satisfy our curiosity. Microscopes weren’t built just to see bacteria, it is built to learn the microscopic world, stethoscopes weren’t built just to hear the heartbeat, it is built for us to know if there’s irregularity in heartbeat or breathing. That’s why with these kinds of events such as Science Month, truly teaches us to be observant and to keep researching to find or discover new things and to solve different problems that we are facing.

Science should be celebrated and should be engaged towards the youth. With these, the young generation gets to know more about the world ahead of them. These kind of events makes the youth more determined, precise, interested, creative, and knowledgeable. Being a part of events like this is a tool to enhance our technology which is beneficial to our everyday lives. So, let’s Science the way to a better tomorrow!
