The Campus Journalism Act of 1991 has been the hallmark in campus journalism history. It served as the epitome of the country’s recognition of the role and importance of campus journalism in educating the youth to practice and guarding press freedom. The school has an equally significant role in nurturing the youth to become patriots and guardians of democracy through practicing responsible and honest campus journalism.

Through the decades, the Urdaneta City National High School upholds the tenets of campus journalism – honesty, integrity, courage, and honor. The establishment of The Beacon as the official publication of the school proved the commitment and dedication of the academic institution in supporting campus journalism.

In the light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the editorial board together with the school paper advisers and the school administration, The Beacon will continue advocating responsible and honest campus journalism by utilizing all possible means to let the voices of the learners, stakeholders, and educators be heard.

The Beacon will always be one of the multitude guardians of press freedom with or without the pandemic.
