Urdaneta City National High School joined the annual celebration of National Reading Month held virtually on November 8–25, 2021 to improve learners’ reading performance and develop a culture of reading.

“The National Reading Month serves as a reminder to us in light of our performance that we must double our efforts to close the learning gap, particularly in the area of reading, which is the cornerstone of learning,” said DepEd Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones.

This year’s National Reading Month was themed “Bawat Bata Bumabasa sa Kabila ng Hamon ng Pandemya” (Every Child Reading Despite the Challenge of the Pandemic).

With ongoing limitations to in-person events and face-to-face classes, teachers across learning areas and students across grade levels participated virtually in UCNHS’ series of virtual competitions about reading and writing skills via Google Meet and Facebook Livestream aimed to promote reading and improve literacy among students.

In line with the National Reading Month, the Supreme Student Government Organization made a collaboration with the SHS’ English and Filipino faculty to have a conjoined project called "A Book With a Heart," which is a book donation drive that will benefit daycare pupils from rural areas.

After the collection of donations on November 15–19, 2021, the organization proceeded with the donation drive at Barangay Cabaruan Day Care Center on December 3, 2021, wherein the incoming pupils were given books, pencils, papers, and notebooks, which could be less burden for their families to provide new learning resources.
